After 33 years in charge, Luciano Spalletti is leaving SSC Napoli after winning the Scudetto (Serie A title).

“Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has formalized the parting of ways with Spalletti,” Football Italia reported on Monday (April 29). “The coach asked for a sabbatical, which the president accepted. Napoli needs a new coach,” he added.

The club explained that Spalletti is under contract until 2024, but that the coach has asked to be released from his contract, according to the media. “Spalletti is a free man,” Laurentiis told the local station, “He has given me a lot and I am grateful. It’s time for him to do what he wants to do.”

The 2022-23 season was a historic one for Napoli, as the club parted ways with some of its most iconic players and brought in new ones. The results were immediate. Kim Min-jae, Frank Anguissa, Hvitsa Kvaretshelia, and Giacomo Raspadori, all of whom joined the club last summer, exceeded expectations, while Victor Osimhen, the club’s main gun, scored 30 goals on the season. In the league, the team finished a dominant race to the top of the table and eventually lifted the Scudetto for the first time in 33 years.스포츠토토

Meanwhile, the end of the season saw the departure of key players such as Kim Min-jae and Osimen. Spalletti, who has one year left on his contract, was also heavily linked with a move. However, the Napoli ‘Exodus’ is about to begin as Spalletti has requested a sabbatical.

Spalletti took charge of Napoli in July 2021. In his three years in charge, he won 61 games, drew 16 and lost 18 in 95 matches. In his third season, he won the Scudetto. It was also the first time in his career that he lifted the Scudetto in Italy.
