LG Twins’ “hidden card” outfielder Choi Seung-min has been called up to the first team.
The LG Twins made changes to their first-team roster ahead of their eighth game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League season against the Doosan Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul on Monday. Choi Seung-min was added to the roster, while Song Chan-ui was dropped to the second team.
Choi Seung-min, who was acquired from the NC Dinos in a trade on Aug. 18, made his first appearance in the first team since the move. Ten days to be exact. Choi played two games in the Futures League for LG, going 1-for-5 with a walk, a run, and three stolen bases.
While he didn’t have a hit, he did showcase one of his strengths: his quick feet. He has 130 career stolen bases in the Futures League. LG introduced Choi at the time of the trade, saying, “We evaluate his ability to run the bases with his fast feet and think he can help the team a lot later in the game.”
Originally, Choi Seung-min was scheduled to be called up to the first team later, but Moon Sung-joo’s poor physical condition accelerated his call-up. “The day before, Moon Sung-ju injured her heel while playing defense, so I put her in as a designated hitter, and I called her up sooner than I thought,” said LG coach Yeom Kyung-yeop ahead of the game.안전놀이터
However, Choi Seung-min didn’t make it into the starting lineup right away.
“I’ll use him as a pinch-hitter or a catcher,” said Yeom Kyung-yup. Originally, I was going to call him to the first team after about 10 games,” he said, adding, “I think he has speed, but he hasn’t started yet. I think he’ll have to adapt by playing (in the first team).”
