Kim Young-hee, who led the heyday of Korean women’s basketball, passed away on the 31st of last month. She is 60 years old.
Her late father was a representative center of Korean women’s basketball, who was active in Soongui Girls’ High School, Korea Cosmetics. The deceased took the lead in winning the silver medal at the 1984 LA Olympics with her 2m tall height. She passed away in 1987 after she collapsed during training and was diagnosed with Acromegaly and left her coat. Afterwards, she suffered from complications such as brain tumor, hypoglycemia and thyroid disease, and intestinal obstruction, and she was known to have been living in a nursing home until recently. To help her deceased, basketball players such as Seo Jang-hoon and Heo Jae, including the Korean Women’s Basketball League (WKBL), paid for her treatment, and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also provided a special subsidy of 10 million won.
Prior to the start of the Shinhan Bank SOL 2022-2023 season women’s professional basketball KB and Hana 1Q game held in Cheongju on the 1st, a silent memorial service was held in honor of her deceased.
Her funeral is in a special room at Daniel Funeral Hall in Bucheon, and her funeral is at 8:30 am on the 4th.
