Hanwha Eagles’ second-year right-handed fireballer Moon Dong-ju (20) walked off the mound with the win against the Doosan Bears.
Moon started the game against Doosan in the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League on July 7 at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul, South Korea, and allowed one run (unearned) on seven hits with five strikeouts in six innings.
Supported by three runs while on the mound, Moon was replaced by Kim Seo-hyun in the seventh inning with a 3-1 lead. With the win, Moon picked up her fourth win of the season (4-0).
Moon made waves early in the season with his 160.1-kilometer fastball, but his inability to complete five innings in three consecutive games since May 7 against the KT Wiz has raised concerns.
Moon made up for his poor performance with a seven-inning no-hitter against the Kiwoom Heroes on May 1, and today, he pitched another QS. It was his third QS of the season.
It wasn’t all smooth sailing. In the first inning, he gave up back-to-back singles to Jung Soo-bin and Kim Dae-hyun to put runners on first and second with no outs.
However, he extinguished the flames by striking out Yang Ji Hyun and then struck out the fourth batter, Yang Suk-hwan.
Moon settled down and retired the side in order in the second and third innings. In the fourth inning, the crisis came.
One out later, Yang Ji and Yang Suk-hwan were hit by consecutive singles and Kim Jae-hwan walked to put runners on second and third. But Heo struck out Kyung-min Heo to end the threat.
In the fifth inning, Lee Yoo-chan and Jeong Soo-bin hit back-to-back singles, but the defense made a mistake on the replay and gave up a run. The run was not recorded as an earned run because of the error.
In the sixth inning, Moon took the mound and was hit by Kim Jae-hwan two batters later, but got Heo Kyung-min to ground into an infield single.스포츠토토
Moon faced 24 batters on the day and threw a season-high 101 pitches.
Although he had a few close calls, he was able to get out of them with his timely pitches. In particular, he didn’t give up a single walk with his steady delivery and aggressive pitches.
Having done his job as a starter, Moon walked off the mound to a huge ovation from the Hanwha fans.
