LG Twins’ two notable sidearm pitchers worked together as catch ball partners in the first training session of spring camp.
On the 2nd (hereafter Korean time), LG’s first official training camp was held at the San Francisco Giants Baseball Complex in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA.
‘154km’ rookie sidearm Park Myeong-geun and ‘157km’ national sidearm Jung Woo-young exchanged catches together in their first training session.
Park Myeong-geun is not tall at 174cm, but he is a right-handed sidearm pitcher who throws a fastball of over 150km/h. He was nominated by LG in the 3rd round of the 2023 rookie draft.
Park Myung-geun played an active part in 13 games (51⅔ innings) at Raongo last year with an average ERA of 1.21 and 4 wins and 1 loss. He walked 11 times, struck out 68, and allowed only one home run. In last year’s ‘Strongest Baseball’ program, it became a hot topic by throwing a ball up to 154 km.
Ahead of the camp, Myeong-geun Park said, “It’s my first time playing baseball with professional brothers, so I’m curious about how to train, and I’m looking forward to seeing a higher level of baseball.”
The two players, who have the same style, played catch as partners. Jung Woo-young, who was selected for the World Baseball Classic (WBC) national team, had to get used to the tournament’s official ball, so he played catch with the WBC official ball, Rawlings’ ball. 메이저놀이터
After the catch ball, Jung Woo-young said of Park Myeong-geun, “It’s good. The control is good,” he praised. Park Myung-geun showed good control even though he had touched Rawlings’ ball for the first time.
When leaving the camp, Park Myung-geun said, “Since we are the same sidearm, I want to learn the main weapon fighting spirit from senior Jung Woo-young.” How was Park Myeong-geun’s catch ball with his senior? “The ball is fast,” he admired with a shy expression.
Park Myung-geun said, ‘I want to ask a lot of seniors,’ but he asked Jung Woo-young, and he said, “There are no questions yet. It seems that there is not much shyness,” he said.
Since Park Myung-geun is a rookie, he is busy adapting to the camp. He said, “The camp is still a bit unfamiliar. Yesterday, I did self-training for the first time, and I think I know a little about the training pattern,” he said.
